Initial baby equipment in Rostock – recommendations from the midwife in Rostock

Pregnancy is a special time. Many of my families in Rostock ask me what they really need for the early days with their baby. When it comes to baby essentials in Rostock, there are countless lists on the internet that often cause more confusion than they help.

It's important to me that you feel well prepared, but don't feel pressured. You don't need the perfect equipment, you need security, peace of mind, and confidence in yourself.

⭐ Less is more

In my postnatal care work, I often see people buying lots of things that are hardly ever used later on. That's why I recommend making conscious and practical choices.

The following items are useful for the early days:

  • Bodysuits in sizes 50 and 56, preferably with side buttons

  • Romper suits or comfortable pants

  • Two to three pairs of pajamas

  • a soft hat for outside

  • Socks, even though many babies kick them off

  • a sleeping bag in the right size

  • Muslin cloths, they are a real everyday helper

  • a blanket for when you're out and about

  • a nursing pillow or positioning pillow

When it comes to clothing, I advise against buying too much in the smallest size. Some babies grow very quickly or are born larger.

⭐ Sleeping area and safety

A safe place to sleep is more important than a perfectly furnished nursery. For the early days, the following is sufficient

  • a cot or crib with a firm mattress

  • a sleeping bag instead of a blanket in bed

  • no bumpers, pillows, or stuffed animals in the sleeping area

During the postpartum period, I will calmly discuss with you how to create a safe sleeping environment and what really makes sense.

⭐ Breastfeeding and feeding

If you want to breastfeed, you don't need much at first

  • Comfortable nursing bras

  • Nursing pads

  • Nipple cream

  • Nursing pillow

Bottles, breast pumps, and other items can be purchased later if needed. Often, it's only after the birth that you realize what you really need. If you have any questions, I'm available to help, even while you're still in the hospital.

⭐ Care and diapering

Here, too, just get started:

  • changing table at a comfortable height

  • small quantity of diapers

  • soft washcloths

  • a mild care product for the diaper area

  • a bath thermometer

Many products are not necessary. Above all, baby's skin needs protection and care.

⭐ Stroller, baby carrier, or both

Many parents in Rostock wonder whether they should buy a stroller or a baby carrier. Both have their advantages. During my postnatal visits, I will be happy to show you how to carry your baby safely. A baby carrier is often very practical, especially in everyday life, when walking through Rostock, or for short distances.

Was Ich als Hebamme in Rostock empfehlen

As a midwife in Rostock, I have repeatedly observed that babies primarily need closeness. No amount of perfect equipment can replace physical contact, warmth, and affection. That is why I recommend investing in good advice and support rather than too many products.

I will accompany you at home during the postpartum period after the birth. I do not work in the delivery room. However, if you have any questions while you are still in the hospital, you are welcome to contact me at any time.

If you are unsure about which initial equipment is really right for you, please feel free to talk to me. Together we will find a solution that suits you, your everyday life in Rostock, and your baby.

❤️ Whenever you have something on your mind, I am happy to be by your side. For your questions, thoughts, and all the little moments in between, I am just a phone call away. I look forward to accompanying you with warmth and expertise ❤️
