Recognizing Postpartum Depression, Support in Rostock

The time after birth is often described as especially happy. And yes, it can be beautiful. At the same time, in my work as a midwife in Rostock, I repeatedly see that the postpartum period can also be a very challenging phase. Many women feel exhausted, overwhelmed, sad, or emotionally empty and begin to wonder whether this is still normal.

It is important to me to speak openly about this, because postpartum depression is nothing to be ashamed of. It can affect any woman, regardless of how much she looked forward to her baby.

postpartum depression

In the first days after birth, many women experience what is known as the baby blues. Mood swings, tears without a clear reason, and heightened emotional sensitivity are common. This phase usually fades on its own after a few days.

However, if sadness, lack of motivation, inner restlessness, or feelings of hopelessness last for weeks or become more intense, it may be postpartum depression.

Typical signs can include:

  • Many women feel persistently low or emotionally drained

  • They feel unable to build a connection with their baby

  • Strong feelings of guilt or fear of failure appear

  • Sleep problems occur regardless of the baby’s sleep

  • Withdrawal from family and friends becomes noticeable

If you recognize yourself in this, it is important to know that you are not alone and you do not have to go through this by yourself.

My postpartum care in Rostock

I support women in Rostock not in the delivery room, but starting after the birth. Especially during the postpartum period, I take a lot of time to observe carefully, to listen, and to notice even subtle changes.

Many women only feel able to talk about their emotions within the safe space of postpartum care. I often experience how relieving it is when someone finally says, what you are feeling is allowed to be there.

Even though I am not present during the birth itself, I am always available to my families if questions or uncertainties arise while they are still in the hospital. After discharge, I continue to support you, with attention to your body, breastfeeding, your baby, and especially your emotional well being.

Support and counseling services in Rostock

If it becomes clear that additional support is needed, I help you find suitable assistance. In Rostock, there are various counseling services and regional support options for women experiencing postpartum depression.

  • These include psychosocial counseling services

  • Support programs for parents after birth

  • Therapeutic care available locally

  • Opportunities to connect with other affected mothers

I do not leave you alone with these steps, but support you in finding the path that feels right for you.

Accepting help is a strength

Postpartum depression says nothing about how good a mother you are. It simply shows that your body and your soul have had to cope with a great deal. Accepting help is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of responsibility toward yourself and your child.
