Birth Positions – Which Methods Truly Support You in Rostock

Updated: Dec 11, 2025

When I accompany women through pregnancy here in Rostock, one question comes up again and again:

“What is the best birth position for me?”

My answer is always the same, there is no single perfect position, but many different ones that can support you during the various stages of labour. In my courses and conversations, I see how differently women experience birth and what truly helps them.

Even though I am not with you in the delivery room, I am there for you before and after the birth and of course also if you’re in the hospital and have questions or feel unsure about whether a certain position might be right for you.

⭐Why the Right Birth Position Matters

A good position can:

  • reduce your pain

  • give you more control

  • support your breathing

  • use gravity to your advantage

  • help your baby move into the pelvis

Many women from Rostock tell me after giving birth that the small tips from our conversations helped them find the position their body needed, intuitively and naturally.

⭐Upright Positions – Often Recommended in Rostock Antenatal Classes

In many childbirth preparation courses here in Rostock, upright positions are especially recommended. They use gravity and give you plenty of room to breathe.

These include:

• Standing with support

At the bed, with your partner, or using a rope. Many women say it helps them “move with the wave” of each contraction.

• Walking or swaying

Movement loosens the body, helps the baby descend, and gives you a strong sense of autonomy – something that matters a lot to many women.

• Birth stool

Commonly offered in Rostock clinics. It provides relief while keeping you active.

⭐ Hands-and-Knees Position – A Classic That Helps Almost Everyone

The hands-and-knees position is one of my favourite recommendations because it is so versatile.

It can:

  • noticeably ease back pain

  • widen the pelvis

  • help your baby rotate into a good position

Many women later tell me that this position brought them real relief during labour.

⭐ Side-Lying Position – When Rest and Relaxation Are Essential

Sometimes your body simply needs a break. The side-lying position is a gentle way to recover while still supporting progress.

It’s ideal when:

  • you need to regain strength

  • your baby needs a calmer CTG reading

  • your cervix should continue to open gently

Many midwives in Rostock use pillows between the knees or support the upper leg to help you fully relax.

⭐ Water – Warmth, Release, and a Feeling of Safety

Whether in a bathtub or birthing pool – water is very popular in Rostock, and many clinics offer it.The warmth releases tension, eases pain, and gives you a strong sense of protection.

Women often tell me:

“In the water, I finally managed to let go.”

⭐ What I Always Tell the Families I Support in Rostock

Your body knows what to do.

The best birth position is always the one in which you feel safe, supported, and free to move.

And even though I’m not in the delivery room with you:

You can always reach me during your hospital stay if you have questions or want a second opinion. After the birth, we’ll talk about how everything went, what helped you, and what you might want or need next time.

⭐ My Conclusion

There are many birth positions – and any one of them can be exactly the right one for you.

Through antenatal support in Rostock, in my courses, and in our personal conversations, you’ll discover what suits you. This way, you enter your birth prepared, confident, and connected to your own strength.

Whenever you have something on your mind, I am happy to be by your side. For your questions, thoughts, and all the little moments in between, I am just a phone call away. I look forward to accompanying you with warmth and expertise.
