breastfeeding counseling

Breastfeeding counseling is truly a matter close to my heart—so even if you are not otherwise receiving care from me, I would be happy to assist you specifically in this area.

Breastfeeding a baby is arguably the most intense connection between mother and child. This makes it all the more important to get off to the right start with this miracle. If you are open to breastfeeding, we will prepare you for it at your own pace, discuss the exact procedures, and I will provide you with plenty of help and exercises.

Theory

We devote an entire morning to this topic in the prenatal class. It is particularly important to me that you understand the connections between your body's anatomy and your baby's needs.

We go through each stage of breastfeeding step by step and also look at the timing. This begins immediately after birth in the delivery room, applies to the first few days in the maternity ward, and includes adjustments during the postpartum period. As your attending midwife, I will of course be with you at home as soon as possible to help you there—but you can also count on me during your time in the hospital if things don't go as you imagined.

Praxis

We will practice so that you and your baby can quickly and easily bond. I will show you how to properly position your newborn and explain anatomical features.

There are some great exercises you can try in advance to prevent milk congestion and pain. Over the course of more than 20 years, I have compiled a short list of my favorite useful aids that make breastfeeding as comfortable as possible. We will discuss these and I will answer any questions you may have.

Help in times of need

Not every midwife offers such intensive preparation, and sometimes even we midwives are at our wits' end. So if you are otherwise receiving wonderful care from a midwife in preparation for childbirth or during the postpartum period, but would like to delve deeper into the topic of breastfeeding, please feel free to contact me. I have specialized in this topic over the past decades and have been able to successfully guide almost all of my women through a wonderful breastfeeding experience. And even if something doesn't work out, or especially then, I am there for you at home.
