What exactly is the postpartum period?

The postpartum period refers to the time after the birth of your baby. It is a time of arrival, getting to know each other, and regeneration. There are two phases: the first 10 days after delivery and the longer period until your baby is 8 weeks old. Your body needs to recover from the immense strain of pregnancy and childbirth and also get used to its new tasks. That's why you spend the first few weeks in and around your bed – hence the name: postpartum period.

How did I look after you during that time?

In addition to birth preparation and pregnancy support, postnatal care is one of my main tasks as a midwife. We will decide together and on an individual basis how I will support you during this time. The initial daily visits will decrease over time, and by the end of your baby's eighth week of life, I will visit you at home 1-2 times a week.

  • Checking the regression of the uterus, postpartum bleeding, and wound healing

  • Checking your and your baby's vital signs

  • Discussing medication intake for both of you

  • Breastfeeding support and advice

  • Checking size, temperature, and weight

  • Support with changing, caring for, and handling your baby

  • Emotional and moral support for you as a mother
